Despite Robin Thicke’s eight months of pleading following his separation, his wife Paula Patton has filed for divorce.
Irreconcilable Differences
According to court documents filed in Los Angeles last week, Patton, 38, is citing “irreconcilable differences.” California is a “no-fault” state, meaning the court does not need to prove there is a “guilty” or “non-guilty” spouse, thus the filing of “irreconcilable differences” is reason enough for a divorce.
The Relationship
Thicke, 37, and his soon to be ex-wife have dated since they were teens. The two married in 2005. Allegations of infidelity seemed to be the reason behind the couple’s February decision to legally separate. During that legal separation, the couple decided to mutually co-parent the son they have together, 4-year-old, Julian Fuego.
Attempts to Win Back Patton
Since the announcement of the separation, it seems Thicke has made numerous attempts to woo Patton back, including public apologies, songs like “Get Her Back,” and music videos Ever since the split, Thicke made a string of attempts to woo back the 38-year-old Patton, making public apologies, writing songs like “Get Her Back,”as well as filming a music video documenting the break down of their relationship. The video features not only a Patton lookalike, but also images of Thicke singing about his regret, while text messages pop up throughout.
Thicke also took to radio to fess up about his wrong-doings, telling a New York radio station, “I’m a man. I messed up, and I had to lie for awhile. And then I stopped lying. And that was actually good for me, because I was tired of lying. So this whole album is me revealing everything.”
Patton has been tight lipped about the couple’s status, responding to a Vanity Fair interviewer’s question regarding the relationship with, “We’ve known each other since we were teenagers. All I can tell you is there’s a deep love there — always was, and always will be.”
